Welcome to The Cotswolds!

I love the English Cotswolds and think everyone should visit this beautiful place at least once in their lifetime. Having lived all over the world and traveled as much as possible, I still think that this little part of England is one of the world's greatest treasures. This site is dedicated to helping spread the word and encourage sustainable travel to the Cotswolds.

Hallowe'en at Haunted Woodchester Mansion

The Most Haunted House in the Cotswolds?
Woodchester Mansion is said to be one of the most haunted buildings in all of England.  Regular ghost hunting tours are run nearly every weekend, there have been hundreds of sightings, and photos and videos abound to support the hauntings.  The video here is a good introduction to the house, it's history, and it's otherworldly denizens.

Saturday 30 Oct - 11am to 5pm (last admission 4pm)
Sunday 31 Oct - 11am to 4pm (last admission 3pm)

Walk or ride through beautiful autumn colours to find a Mansion hidden deep in the valley.

Enter the cellars, if you dare, where you will find traditional games and Face Painting,

Younger children can play in the Enchanted Forest, while the very brave can step into the Haunted Graveyard.
Normal Mansion admission prices apply (Adult: £5.50, Concessions £4.50) but there will be a charge of £2.50 for children wishing to visit the Cellar.

Woodchester Mansion - an unfinished masterpiece

Woodchester Mansion is a 19th Century Victorian Gothic Masterpiece mysteriously abandoned mid-construction in 1873. Hidden in a secluded Cotswold valley, it is untouched by time and the modern world. This Grade 1 Listed Building has been saved from dereliction, but will never be completed.
Visitors walk through an extraordinary architectural exhibit in which the secrets of the medieval Gothic builders and masons are laid bare. The carvings in Woodchester Mansion are among the finest of their kind in the world.
Woodchester Mansion Trust was founded to protect and to preserve this unique building for future generations and has pioneered a unique on-site masonry and traditional building skills training programme that is now being emulated across the UK.

Woodchester Park
Visiting the Mansion

Woodchester Mansion stands in Woodchester Park, a National Trust park whose entrance is near Nympsfield. The Mansion has its own car park for use on Open Days. The entrance to the Mansion’s car park is on the B4066 (Stroud to Dursley road) five miles south of Stroud, close to the Coaley Peak viewing point, and at the junction of the B4066 and a minor road leading to Nympsfield.
Car parking is free and the Mansion itself is one mile from the car park. A free minibus service is available on Open Days to take you between the car park and the Mansion. Please note that there is no vehicular access to the Mansion itself.
If you are travelling to the Mansion from the M5 then you should leave the motorway at Junction 13 and use the A417 heading towards Stroud. Turn right at the first roundabout to take you to the village of Eastington where you turn left towards Frocester. Continue up Frocester Hill and turn left on the B4066 at the top of the hill. The entrance to Woodchester Mansion car park is then about 400 yards on the right - just after you pass the entrance to the Coaley Peak viewpoint and picnic area on your left.
The post code of the Mansion is GL10 3TS though please note that there is no access to Woodchester Park or to the Mansion from the A46 which is where, unfortunately, some SatNav systems will take you.
The grid reference for the entrance to the Mansion car park is SO 79528 01420 and the entrance is at Latitude 51.711N Longitude 2.298W.
